Molekularne metode so metode, ki se uporabljajo v molekularni biologiji za proučevanje genskega zapisa in njegovega prepisovanja ter izražanja. Molekularna biologija proučuje strukturo in funkcijo makromolekul (nukleinskih kislin, proteinov) ter njihove interakcije v celicah in med celicami. Na Nacionalnem inštitutu za biologijo molekularne metode uporabljamo tudi za diagnostiko na področju varne hrane. Molekularne metode na osnovi pomnoževanja nukleinskih kislin nam med drugim omogočajo določanje prisotnosti, identifikacijo in določanje deleža gensko spremenjenih organizmov v hrani in določanje prisotnosti povzročiteljev bolezni pri rastlinah. Predavanje je namenjeno predstavitvi dela dejavnosti Nacionalnega instituta za biologijo na obeh področjih.
