Description
Light, spanning the electromagnetic spectrum from far blue to near infrared, offers versatile approaches to visualize biological specimens, detect diseases and treat health problems. Here, we revisit the fundamental advantages of light and summarize the principles of operation including photothermal and photochemical effects, overview the successful clinical utilities of light, and discuss the promises of new technologies such as cell lasers.
