Professor Ernst Wit is the Chair of Statistics and Probability at the University of Groningen and he has a wide interest in the field and applications of Statistics, ranging from statistical bioinformatics, systems biology, optimal design and algebraic approaches to statistics.

From June 2006 until Deceber 2008, Ernst Wit is the Honorary Secretary of the Research Section of the Royal Statistical Society, which is responsible for administrating the RSS Read Papers at its Ordinary Meetings. In this role, I would like to invite anyone to email me groundbreaking statistical manuscripts for consideration as a Read Paper.

Research Interests. His research focusses on the statistical design of microarray experiments and he exploring the possibility of the development of dynamic Bayesian models, such as Hidden Markov Chains, for gene network modelling. Dr Wit's other research interest is in the introduction of extendibility conditions for statistical models. In this algebraic approach to statistics, the use of category theory is proposed to describe certain desirable invariance principles any sensible statistical model should possess, as well as to yield a constructive algorithm for a certain class of these models.

In the past Dr Wit has worked on likelihood procedures for mixture models.

Dr Wit also holds a Ph.D. in philosophy, and he continues to hold this science dearly. In the area of Philosophy his interests are Game Theory and Ethics and Kantian Philosophy. Working with Dr Marie Gillette in Pennsylvania, Dr Wit is interested in a systematic study of Linguistic Redundancy (PDF).
