Lizenin je toksin deževnika, ki je namenjen borbi proti parazitskim mikroorganizmom. Z opisom zgradbe toksina deževnika in razumevanjem nastanka nanopore na površini membran celic so raziskovalci in raziskovalke razložili delovanje nekaterih drugih bakterijskih toksinov. Odkritje bo omogočilo načrtovanje strategij za preprečevanje bakterijskih okužb pri ljudeh in živalih in uporabo pore toksina deževnika kot molekulsko orodje v raziskavah in v nanotehnoloških aplikacijah v sodobnih senzorskih napravah.
