LHC kolaboraciji ATLAS in CMS sta pred kratkim naznanili odkritje novega delca z maso 125 GeV. Lastnosti novo odkritega delca so zelo podobne temu, kar pričakujemo za Higgsov bozon v standardnem modelu osnovnih delcev in interakcij med njimi. V kolokviju bomo pojasnili pomen odkritja - kaj je Higgsov bozon, zakaj ima posebno vlogo v strukturi standardnega modela, do kolikšne mere vemo, da se lastnosti odkritega delca ujemajo s predvidenimi lastnostmi Higgsovega bozona - in nakazali prihodnje smeri raziskav na tem področju.
